Goodbye 2020

Goodbye 2020
It's been a difficult year...and that may be one of the greatest understatements that I've ever made. I'm also on holiday break right now and having time to catch up with my own feelings and emotions about all of it, so I thought a little open letter of sorts felt like the right thing to do. I hope that you, dear reader, are being given the luxury of space and time to take a break yourself. I realize that it is a real privilege to be able to do so in this day and age.

Pretty much I'm doing what we're all doing at home. Cooking, reading, cleaning, getting around to those last lingering projects. I'm planning some new fragrances for the year and will be tinkering with some new formulas while the shop is on winter break through January. I'm taking a bit of a tech break (which is why you're not hearing from or seeing social posts from me as often of late). I'm also finding that I'm coming back around to enjoying writing as an emotional outlet and a way to connect my own dots, so I'm journaling. And it's great. I lost my biological father this year (non-COVID) and am still sifting through the rubble of that on a personal level. I just finished Zadie Smith's incredible 'Intimations', which really brought the impact of 2020 home for me. I just started 'Wintering' by Katherine May. I'm only a few pages in, but it feels like the perfect medicine for right now. I just finished watching The Flight Attendant, which was amazing (intrigue! suspense! style! TRAVEL!) and I'm a few episodes in watching The Boys which has a surprising amount of resonance to 2020, all wrapped up in a fun-shiny superhero package. I live for soup season, and this one from The Kitchn is a fave that's simple to make and easy to get creative with.

If nothing else, 2020 will leave us all with a lot to think about and unpack over the next few years...our connections with others, our connection with our self, and how very much we need one another. Keep ordering takeout and supporting your local restaurants, keep supporting your local small businesses, keep donating to the food banks and agencies who are working so hard to help those in need right now. Practice random acts of kindness and turn it up to 11. The New Year is right around the corner.
