Virginia Piazza Pottery

$50.00

I first spied the sleek lines and gorgeous pottery of local maker Virginia Piazza at the Beacon Farmers Market, and my personal collection and admiration for her work and craft grew from there.

Each piece has a lovely 'clean-rustic' character and is wheel-thrown using a durable, high-fire blend of porcelain and stoneware clays with her signature cream/aqua glaze. These are fantastic, unique pieces for the kitchen and entertaining that are meant to be used, loved, shared, and gifted...they will bring a smile to your face and are a real pleasure to reach for and use daily.

Available styles:

-Pitcher: 6.5"H x 3.75"dia

-Berry bowl with saucer set: 4"H x 6"dia

-Small mixing bowl: 3.25"H x 5.5"dia

-Hourglass tumbler: 3.5"H x 3.5"dia

About Virginia Piazza:

Like most potters, I was beguiled by clay right from the start. I had enjoyed drawing, watercolor, printmaking and various textile processes in the past, but clay was my material!

I loved that clay could be many things- its qualities are very subtle, unlike some other materials.

I have experimented over the years-working in different ways including tile, figure sculpture and vessels, and functional ware, and have tried out many different firing techniques.

For the past 20 years my work has centered on functional ware, mostly porcelain, in a limited glaze palette. I have mostly focused on simple surfaces, using one or two harmonizing glazes. (Recently I have returned to embellishing some of my wares with wax-resist designs, sgraffito, and inlay.)

What remains constant is my hope that the work will continue to speak to the user and to find a special place in everyday life.

I have worked from a studio in my home in Beacon, NY since 2001. Prior to that, I lived in Brooklyn, and maintained studios in communal workshops in the Gowanus and Williamsburg areas.
